Rays drop opener
Tampa dropped the opening game of the series on Tuesday night, 9-4, for their sixth loss in eight games. The Rays are 45-34 on the year, 25-16 on the road and 41-32 with the under. Charlie Morton gets the start for the Rays this evening. He is 8-1 on the season with a 2.31 ERA.
Tampa fell behind early and never was able to recover. Blake Snell struggled in his start, continuing his poor season. Snell allowed seven runs over 3.1 innings to fall to 4-7 on the season. Willy Adames had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Rays at the plate while Michael Brousseau drove in two runs.
Twins heating up again
Minnesota is starting to heat up again, as the Twins have won three of their last four games following a 9-4 win over Tampa last night. The Twins are 51-27 on the season, 25-13 at home and 40-33 with the over. Jake Odorizzi gets the start tonight. He is 10-3 on the season with a 2.58 ERA.
Kyle Gibson got the win on Tuesday night to improve to 8-4 on the season. He threw seven innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Eddie Rosario led the Twins with four hits and two RBI while Mitch Garber had three hits, three RBI and two RBI. Willians Astudillo added three hits with a RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa
The Rays are just 2-6 in their last eight road games, but 5-0 in Morton’s last five starts against AL Central opponents.
Minnesota
The Twins are 55-25 in their last 80 home games and 15-5 in their last 20 games against AL East opponents.
Prediction:
Odorizzi was really rolling for most of the season, but has allowed eight runs over his last 10 innings of work. Despite that, he comes into tonight with a 1.91 ERA at home and a great lineup to get him run support. While Morton has strong numbers for the year, Tampa doesn’t have the same hitting and I am suspect on their ability to produce runs tonight.
MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins +100
