Rangers drop opener
Texas lost the series opener to the White Sox on Thursday night, 6-1. The Rangers are 63-66 on the season, 25-39 on the road and 66-59 with the under. Lance Lynn is taking the mound tonight. He has a 14-8 record on the year with a 3.60 ERA.
The Rangers were held to just three hits on Thursday night, as the Chicago pitching had a breakout performance. Elvis Andrus drove in the lone run with a solo home run, his 10th of the season. On the mound, Ariel Jurado threw a complete game in the loss. He gave up six runs on 10 hits over eight innings to fall to 6-10 on the season.
White Sox heating up
Chicago has won three of its last four games after picking up a 6-1 win over the Rangers last night. The Sox are 58-69 on the season, 31-31 at home and 64-58 with the under. The Sox have Dylan Cease on the mound today. He is 2-6 on the year with a 5.93 ERA.
Chicago’s pitching was locked in on Thursday night. Ross Detwiler got the start and improved to 2-3 on the year with the win. He struck out eight and allowed one run on three hits over six innings. The Chicago pen then threw three hitless innings. At the plate, Yoan Moncada returned in a big way, hitting his 21st home run of the year. James McCann also homered while Jose Abreu drove in his 97th run of the season.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 2-7 in their last nine road games and 7-16 in their last 23 games following a loss.
Chicago
The White Sox are 5-11 in their last 16 home games and 2-6 in their last eight following a win.
Prediction:
Lynn has been pretty strong on the mound for Texas this year and he has allowed just one earned run in four of his last five starts. He actually has a stronger ERA (3.17) on the road than he does at home. However, he did give up five runs in seven innings to the White Sox earlier this season. Cease hasn’t been great for Chicago, but he also hasn’t gotten much run support. I think the Sox are still inconsistent at the plate with only a few prime hitters and I also think they used up their strong pitching last night. Chicago isn’t a team that will hold a team to three hits often. Lynn is a strong pitcher that should keep the score low.
MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers -150
