Blue Jays continue slide
After a strong start to 2018, the Blue Jays are in a real funk and have lost six of their last seven games, including the first two in this series. Toronto is now 14-12 on the season and 8-7 at home. The Blue Jays now average 5.24 runs per game at the plate while allowing 4.24 per contest.
J.A. Happ gets the start for the Blue Jays today, in hopes of getting them back on track. Happ has started five games and is 3-1 with a 3.72 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. Over 29 innings of work, Happ has 41 strikeouts with seven walks.
Rangers on 3-game win streak
The Texas Rangers are on their first 3-game win streak of the year thanks to a 7-4 win on Saturday. The Rangers are now 11-17 overall and 7-5 on the road. Texas is putting up 3.70 runs per game this season while allowing 5.07 per game.
Martin Perez gets the start on Sunday for Texas. Perez has started four games this season and he is 2-2 despite a 9.82 ERA and a 2.40 WHIP. His two losses saw him give up 15 earned runs over a combined seven innings. On the year, he has 11 strikeouts with eight walks over 18.1 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers have actually won 11 of Perez’ last 15 starts overall and five of his last seven road starts. However, they are just 5-13 in their last 18 Sunday games.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have won Happ’s last four starts overall and 12 of his last 15 Sunday starts. They have dropped five straight home games, but have won 10 of their last 15 against AL West opponents.
Prediction:
I give credit to the Rangers for what they have done so far in this series, but I still see the Jays as too good to get swept at home by this Texas team, especially with Perez being a mess this season. Even if the Jays can’t get going at the plate, Happ should be able to keep them in the game on the mound.
The Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -210
