Hernandez homers twice in loss

Toronto lost by a score of 5-4 Wednesday night at Boston to drop to 36-61 overall and 18-31 on the road. Aaron Sanchez suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Teoscar Hernandez paced the Blue Jays offense as he finished 2-for-2 with two home runs, two walks and three runs scored. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Justin Smoak ended the contest 1-for-4. Thomas Pannone will start today for Toronto as he enters with a 2-3 record, 6.18 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 40 strikeouts over 39 1/3 innings.

Devers guides Red Sox to win

Boston held on for a 5-4 home win Wednesday night over Toronto to improve to 52-44 overall and 23-25 at home. Rafael Devers helped lead the Red Sox offensively as he ended the game 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Brock Holt went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Christian Vazquez was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Eduardo Rodriguez picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 6 1/3 innings. Brandon Workman earned his fifth save as he gave up one earned run on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks over 1 1/3 innings. Chris Sale starts today for Toronto as he enters with a 3-9 record, 4.27 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 160 strikeouts over 111 2/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Toronto

The Blue Jays are 22-47 in their last 69 games. Toronto is 2-7 in its last nine road games.

Boston

The Red Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. Boston is 1-7 in the last eight Sale starts on Thursdays.

Prediction:

On the one hand, Sale hasn’t been his usual self this season and the Blue Jays have had his number. But he should also get run support as Pannone has been overmatched at the MLB level, although he does have a solid strikeout rate. I’m instead going to take a shot on the over as I did when I hit on the over in the series opener. I think runs will be aplenty here as Toronto will be up to the challenge against Sale I believe, while I don’t see Pannone slowing down the potent Boston offense.
