Blue Jays fall in Game 2

Toronto took the series opener on Friday, 1-0, but followed that up with an 8-5 loss on Saturday. The Jays are now 15-18 on the season, 8-10 on the road and 20-13 with the under. The Blue Jays send Clay Buchholz to the mound today. He is 0-1 on the season with a 4.79 ERA.

The Blue Jays couldn’t really get started as Thomas Pannone got rocked right away on the mound. He gave up seven runs over 2.1 innings on five hits and three walks. He took the loss and is now 1-3 on the season. Eric Sogard tried to help lead a rally for the Blue Jays, as he tripled and drove in two runs for Toronto.

Rangers find some hitting

Texas was shutout on Friday and had scored just nine runs over their last three before putting up eight on Saturday. The Rangers are now 15-16 on the season, 11-7 at home and 18-12 with the over. Texas has Drew Smyly on the mound today. He is 0-2 on the season with a 7.80 ERA.

The Rangers got hot at the plate quickly and ended up scoring all eight runs over the first three innings on Saturday. Isiah Kiner-Falefa led the production, as he tripled and rove in four runs on the day while Logan Forsythe drove in two and Nomar Mazara hit his sixth home run of the season. The early run support allowed Lance Lynn to earn his fourth win of the season despite giving up five runs over six innings. Shawn Kelley earned his second save of the season with a perfect ninth.

MLB Betting Trends

Toronto

The Blue Jays are 1-4 in their last five against losing teams and 8-22 in their last 30 road game against a left-handed starter.

Texas

The Rangers are just 3-8 in their last 11 games overall and 1-5 in their last six after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.

Prediction:

Buchholz hasn’t been great, but his numbers are better than Smyly. Smyly has given up four runs in his last three starts and he hasn’t gotten past five innings in any start this year. This will be his first start since April 19, but I don’t expect him to be completely reformed today. I think Buchholz can grind out a few innings and help the bullpen while the Jays get to Smyly early. I think we see a flip of what happened on Saturday, with the Jays coming out on top.

MLB Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays +110
