2011 AL Pennant Odds to Win
(The Spread) – As baseball heads into its second half, oddsmakers have released updated odds for the 2011 American League pennant.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have made the Boston Red Sox an 8/5 favorite to win the 201l AL Pennant. The Yankees have the next best odds at 11/4, while the Rangers are 15/2 and the Tigers are 10/1.
The Red Sox entered the year as the favorites to win the AL pennant, then they got off to a rocky start. But despite injuries and inconsistent performances from key contributors like Carl Crawford, Boston currently sits in first place in the AL East at the All-Star Break. If they continue to get great efforts out of Josh Beckett and offseason acquisition Adrian Gonzalez, the BoSox will be hard to beat in the second half.
Of course, the Bombers are only one game behind their AL East rivals and have some of the hottest hitters in the game right now. Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira remain hot, while guys like Bartolo Colon have been a pleasant surprise. You know that the Yankees’ front office will make a move or two at the trade deadline if they feel they must.
Despite losing ace Cliff Lee to the Phillies in the offseason, the Rangers have managed to stay afloat in the AL West. They currently lead the Angels (15/1 to win the AL pennant) by one game and still boast one of the best lineups in baseball. If their pitching can hold up in the second half, Texas could push for another World Series appearance.
In the Central, the race is once again tight. The Tigers lead the Indians (18/1) by a half game at the break. The White Sox figure to be in the mix as well and even though the Twins have struggled mightily this year, don’t count them out either. This division will likely come down to the final month, if not the final days of the season.
