2011 World Series Odds to Win
(The Spread) – With baseball ready to kick off its second half, oddsmakers have released updated odds to win the 2011 World Series.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog currently list the Phillies as 11/4 favorites to win the 2011 World Series. The Red Sox have the next best odds at 7/2, while the Yankees are 6/1 and the Braves are 14/1. The defending AL pennant winners the Rangers are 15/1, while the Brewers and defending World Series champion Giants are 16/1, respectively.
The Phillies will start the second half with a 3.5-game lead over the Braves in the NL East. Both teams have the pitching to go deep into the postseason, if not win a title. The 2011 NL Wild Card winner figures to come out of this division seeing as how the competition is weak in the Central and West.
In the AL East, the Red Sox lead the Yankees by only one game. But it’s a marvel Boston is even in first place after it stumbled out of the gates. If offseason acquisition Carl Crawford can get his act together, then the Red Sox will be tough to beat in the second half. Either way, the BoSox and Bombers figure to challenge each other all second half.
It appears as though people have fallen asleep on the Rangers and Giants, who represented each league in the World Series last year. The consensus was that Texas would fall apart without Cliff Lee (free agent/Phillies) and San Francisco wouldn’t find the same luck it had last year when San Diego choked down the stretch and allowed the Giants to sneak into the postseason on the last day of the regular series. Yet as of this date, both teams are in first place and thanks to the Rangers’ offense and the Giants’ pitching, both clubs could challenge for the World Series again.
Some long shots to keep an eye on are the Tigers (18/1), Cardinals (20/1), Reds (28/1) and Rays (28/1). Detroit is currently in first place in the lackluster AL Central, while the Cardinals are tied with the Brewers for first place in the equally lackluster NL Central. The Reds are only four games behind in that same NL Central division and if their pitching can get its act together, they could make a second half run, while the Rays won the AL East last year and haven’t fallen apart like most pundits thought.
