The Tigers and Angels made the biggest splashes on the free agent market this past winter, signing Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols, respectively. Detroit is absolutely loaded offensively thanks to Fielder and fellow slugger Miguel Cabrera, and their starting pitching features 2011 AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.
The Angels, meanwhile, added Pujols to a lineup that also features Howie Kendrick, Kendrys Morales and Vernon Wells. Los Angeles also signed the top pitcher on the market in C.J. Wilson, who joins Jered Weaver and Dan Haren in the Halos’ starting rotation.
For the Yankees, they acquired starter Michael Pineda and signed the underrated Hiroki Kuroda to beef up the starting rotation, although Pineda will miss at least the first month of the season with shoulder inflammation. The Bombers still have one of the best offenses in either league, thanks to Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter.
