Updated 2012 World Series Odds
(The Spread) – With the 2012 MLB season now underway, it’s time to take one last look at every club’s pre-season odds to win the 2012 World Series.
According to oddsmakers the Philadelphia Phillies are 11/2 favorites to win the 2012 World Series, while the New York Yankees have the next best odds at 7/1. The Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels are 15/2, respectively, while the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers are both 10/1 to win, respectively.
Outside of maybe the Giants, the Phillies have the best starting pitching in the National League. That said, Roy Halladay is coming off a poor spring and the Phillies have major injury issues due to the health of Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. The Yankees, meanwhile, have a great offense but they’re dealing with injury issues of their own, as starter Michael Pineda has inflammation in his shoulder.

Speaking of the Giants, they’re currently 15/1 to win the 2012 World Series while the Tampa Bay Rays are 20/1. The Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins are all 22/1 to win, respectively, while the defending World Series champion Cardinals are 25/1.
The Cardinals’ odds are a reflection of the club’s offseason. Long-time superstar Albert Pujols signed with the Angels this past winter and ace Chris Carpenter is dealing with nerve damage in his back/shoulder. Along with Carpenter, both Skip Schumaker and Allen Craig will start the season on the disabled list, although the Cardinals should still have enough to challenge the Reds and Brewers in the NL Central.
