Nationals 2011 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – The Washington Nationals may have a ton of promise, but they’re long shots to win the 2011 World Series – and rightfully so.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Nationals +10000 on the money line to win the 2011 World Series and +6000 to win the NL East. The Nats also have an over/under total of 72 for number of wins this season.
Offseason Additions: The Nationals shocked the masses when they were able to sign free agent Jayson Werth to a mega-contract this winter. Werth reportedly had an offer on the table from the Red Sox, but he wanted more years and wound up in Washington. It’s going to be hard for him to live up to his ridiculous contract but there’s no doubt he’s an upgrade over Adam Dunn. The team also signed free agents Adam LaRoche, Jerry Hairston Jr., Rick ankiel, and Laynce Nix, as well as added pitcher Tom Gorzelanny.
Offseason Losses: Adam Dunn was the club’s biggest loss, although signing Werth obviously helped in his area. Dunn agreed to a new deal with the Chicago White Sox and will give them much-needed pop in the middle of their lineup.
Season Outlook: Unless it’s done as a publicity stunt towards the end of the season, No. 1 overall pick Bryce Harper won’t see the majors in 2011. The same goes for former No. 1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg, who will miss the season after having surgery on his arm. While Werth is an upgrade over Dunn, the rest of the lineup will struggle to score runs. The fact of the matter is that the Nats just don’t have enough to compete with the Phillies, Braves and Marlins in the division, although if it’s any consolation to D.C. fans, they might finish above the Mets. There’s definitely a lot to like about this club’s future assuming Harper pans out and Strasburg returns to full health, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the Nationals compete this year – Jayson Werth be damned.
