Rendon, Harper power Nats to win
Anthony Rendon went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs and three RBIs to help send Washington to a 5-4 victory at the Mets Thursday night. Bryce Harper added a 2-run home run in five at-bats, coming in the seventh inning to give the Nationals a 5-2 lead at that point. Daniel Murphy finished 1-for-2 with two walks. Matt Wieters was 1-for-3 plus a walk. Max Scherzer picked up the win as he gave up three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Ryan Madson gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fourth save.
Bautista homers off Scherzer
Jose Bautista has had a strong history of success against Scherzer and it continued Wednesday as he went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Asdrubal Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two runs and an RBI. Michael Conforto was 1-for-3 with a walk. Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Steven Matz took the loss as he allowed three earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 6 1/3 innings.
Tanner Roark (3-11, 4.76 ERA) will take the mound for Washington, while Noah Syndergaard (4-1, 3.06) comes off the DL to start for New York.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 2-10 in their last 12 road games. Washington is 8-18 in its last 26 games overall.
New York
The Mets are 17-49 in their last 66 home games versus the Nationals. New York is 7-19 in its last 26 home games.
Prediction:
Syndergaard has been typically strong when healthy this season, but he could be on a strict pitch count today as he hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since May 25. Roark has had a dismal season, but he threw seven innings of two-hit ball at the Mets back on April 18. With the Nationals having the Mets’ number the last many years and Syndergaard probably not going deep in the game, this is a prime chance for an upset pick. Go with the Nats.
