Phillies fall to 6.5 back in NL East
Philadelphia has struggled mightily over the last month and could not turn it around Tuesday as it fell in both games to extend its losing skid to four games. Nick Pivetta suffered the Game 1 loss as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and three walks over 4 1/3 innings. Rhys Hoskins walked twice in four plate appearances. Justin Bour was 1-for-1 with a walk and a stolen base. Maikel Franco contributed a pinch-hit RBI single. In Game 2, Hoskins was 3-for-5 with a double plus a run and an RBI. Wilson Ramos was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Carlos Santana was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk. Jose Bautista finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run off the bench. Asdrubal Cabrera went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, a run and an RBI. Yacksel Rios suffered the loss in relief as he surrendered one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and no walks over one inning.
Stephen Strasburg (7-7, 4.04 ERA) will start tonight for the Nats, while the Phillies counter with Nola (16-4, 2.29).
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The under is 37-18-1 in the last 56 Nationals road games. Washington is 22-8 in Strasburg’s last 30 Wednesday starts.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 20-6 in Nola’s last 26 home starts. Philadelphia is 20-7 in Nola’s last 27 starts overall.
Prediction:
Nola continues to be one of the best pitchers in baseball and gives his team a great chance to win just about every time out. Philadelphia has faded fast, but it has the more consistent pitcher on the mound today and expecting Washington to earn a sweep just doesn’t feel right with how its season has gone.
