Which MLB manager will be fired first?
(The Spread) – Who will be the first manager to be fired this season in baseball? If you’re Bud Black, you’re not a big fan of the odds right now.
According to oddsmakers Black is a 3/1 “favorite” to be the first manager fired in 2012, followed by Brad Mills at 5/1. Dusty Baker is 11/2 while Buck Showalter and Ron Gardenhire are 6/1.
Black nearly led the Padres to a National League West title in 2010 but San Diego was beat out on the last day of the season by the San Francisco Giants, who wound up winning the World Series that year. The Padres sunk to the bottom of the NL West last season with a 71-91 record and don’t have a lot of talent this season, which has led to some speculation that Black could be let go.

Continuing the odds, Colorado’s Jim Tracy is 9/1 to be the first manager fired in 2012, while Charlie Manuel, Joe Girardi and Bruce Bochy are all 10/1, respectively. Angels’ skipper Mike Scioscia is the “long shot” to be fired first at 12/1.
It’s a stretch to think that Manuel, Girardi, Bochy and Scioscia will be fired at any point during the 2012 MLB season, let alone be the first to be fired. All four managers are at the controls of contenders so unless the Phillies, Yankees, Giants or Angels really struggle in the early going, Manuel, Girardi, Bochy and Scioscia should be safe.
