Pitching for Cincinnati will be Homer Bailey (5-9, 6.96 ERA), while Milwaukee counters with Brandon Woodruff (2-2, 3.76). Bailey holds a 1.75 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 84 innings. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work during an 8-5 home loss to the Cardinals his last start. Bailey has a 6.07 ERA in 43 road innings. Woodruff has a 1.23 WHIP with 32 strikeouts over 40 2/3 innings. He surrendered four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks over five innings in a 5-4 home loss to the Cubs his last outing. Woodruff has a 4.85 ERA in 29 2/3 home innings.

The Reds are 66-91 overall and 27-49 on the road, while the Brewers are 83-74 overall and 43-36 at home as they sit 1.5 games back of the Rockies for the second NL Wild Card spot. Cincinnati has won six of the last 10 meetings and the total has gone over seven times.

On Tuesday, Milwaukee held on for a 7-6 victory in the series opener. Eric Thames was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Neil Walker drew two walks and scored a run. Domingo Santana hit a three-run homer. Stephen Vogt went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs. Orlando Arcia finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Josh Hader earned the win in relief, while Corey Knebel picked up his 38th save. Scott Schebler was 2-for-4 with his 30th home run and two RBIs to pace the Reds. Joey Votto was 1-for-2 with two walks, a run and an RBI. Adam Duvall finished 2-for-4. Zach Cozart and Jesse Winker both hit a solo home run. Deck McGuire allowed six runs (four earned) in three innings to take the loss.

Bet on Reds vs. Brewers

Milwaukee is desperate to keep winning as it has only five games left in its season with a 1.5-game deficit in the NL Wild Card race. The great news is that they face Bailey, who has had a horrible season trying to bounce back from elbow surgery. Woodruff has regressed his last few starts, but he’s shown enough promise to trust him in this situation. The Brewers need a win and will be pulling out all the stops here.
