COLORADO NOTES: The Rockies had to place top free agent acquisition Ian Desmond on the 10-day disabled list after he fractured a bone in his left hand in mid-March. Desmond had to have surgery and the expectation is that he’ll be ready to rejoin the big league club before the end of the month. Mark Reynolds will start in place of Desmond at first base to open the season.
MILWAUKEE NOTES: After receiving a three-year, $16 million deal over the winter, Eric Thomas will hit second today against the Rockies, who will start Jon Gray. Jonathan Villar will bat leadoff, followed by Thomas, then Ryan Braun and Travis Shaw. Junior Guerra will oppose Gray for Milwaukee.
