Pitching for the Mets will be Matt Harvey (5-4, 5.82 ERA), while the Cubs are sending Jon Lester (10-7, 4.35) to the mound. Harvey has a 1.50 WHIP with 58 strikeouts in 77 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk over five innings in his last start, a 7-2 home victory over Cincinnati. Harvey has a 5.58 ERA in eight road starts. Lester carries a 1.30 WHIP with 164 strikeouts in 159 1/3 innings. He gave up one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks in six innings in an 8-2 win at the Pirates his last start. Lester has a 4.60 ERA in 16 home starts.
New York is 63-81 this season and 30-40 on the road, while Chicago is 78-66 and 41-32 at home. The season series is tied 2-2 and the total has gone over in the last three games.
On Tuesday, the Cubs claimed an 8-3 victory as Kris Bryant hit his 26th home run and drove in four while also drawing a walk. Ben Zobrist was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Kyle Schwarber was 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two runs. Jose Quintana gave up two earned runs over seven innings to earn the win. Asdrubal Cabrera was 3-for-5 with a double to lead the Mets. Amed Rosario went 2-for- 4 with a run. Robert Gsellman allowed four earned runs in four innings to take the loss.
Harvey is having an abysmal season and didn’t even fool anyone during his best start in a long while his last time out. Don’t expect him to tame the Cubs. Lester is having a down season by his standards, so expect him to give up two or three runs while allowing the Chicago offense to do the rest of the work.
