Texas will go with Andrew Cashner (7-9, 3.44 ERA) on the mound, while Houston counters with Dallas Keuchel (11-2, 2.58). Cashner has a 1.34 WHIP with 63 strikeouts in 125 2/3 innings. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk over six innings in a 7-5 win at the Angels his last start. Keuchel has a 1.07 WHIP with 90 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks over seven innings in a 5-4 home loss to the Nationals.
The Rangers are 65-66 on the season, while the Astros are 79-52. Texas won the series opener 12-2, but the Astros have still won six of the last 10 matchups. The over-under is 3-5-2.
On Tuesday, the Rangers jumped out to a big lead by scoring four runs in the third and fourth innings before adding three more in the fifth. Shin Soo Choo was 3-for-6 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs. Elvis Andrus was 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, three runs and an RBI. Joey Gallo hit a two-run homer, his 36th of the season. Rougned Odor had a hit and scored two runs, while Robinson Chirinos added a hit and scored three runs. Martin Perez gave up two earned runs over seven innings to get the win. Mike Fiers gave up eight earned runs over four innings to take the loss. Alex Bregman had three hits and an RBI, while Yuli Gurriel and J.D. Davis each had two hits.
Don’t expect the Rangers to repeat their performance from the day before. Although the Astros players have a lot to worry about in their personal lives due to Hurricane Harvey, the strength of the team plus Keuchel on the mound should be enough to get the job done.
