Will Red Sox top Tigers when Sale faces Verlander? MLB Predictions 4/10/11

Red Sox vs. Tigers Prediction

Will the Red Sox get the best of the Tigers when Chris Sale squares off against Justin Verlander today at 1:10PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Red Sox are -115 money line favorites versus the Tigers, who have odds of -105 to win at home. With Sale set to face Verlander in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 7.5 runs.

Sale struck out seven Pirates while allowing just three hits and a walk over seven shutout innings in a no-decision on Wednesday. Jameson Taillon was outstanding as well, so Sale didn’t earn a victory in his debut with the Red Sox. Nevertheless, Sale was dominant and given how potent Boston’s offense normally is, he could be looking at 20-win season if things break right.

Verlander allowed two runs on six hits while walking two over 6 1/3 innings in Tuesday’s 6-3 win over the White Sox. He also struck out 10 and fired 66 of 102 pitches for strikes. A couple of rainouts have forced Detroit to reshuffle its pitching staff so Verlander missed out on two starts during the opening week of the season.

Bet Today’s Red Sox vs. Tigers Game

OUR PICK: The Red Sox are 11-3 in their last 14 games coming off a win and are 22-8 in their last 30 contests after scoring five runs or more in their previous game. Both pitchers are being offered at a great price but the Tigers are just 6-14 in Verlander’s last 20 starts against the American League East, so I’m rolling the dice with Sale. Let’s just hope the Red Sox offense shows up for him today.
