Sale scattered two hits and three runs over seven stellar frames Saturday in the Red Sox’s win over the Rays. He totaled 12 strikeouts while issuing just two walks. 70 of his 110 pitches went for strikes including 16 swings and misses. The two hits Sale allowed were both homers including a solo shot by Logan Morrison in the second inning and a two-run blast from Kevin Kiermaier in the fifth. The Red Sox weren’t giving Sale much run support early in the year but they’ve exploded for a combined 28 runs over his last three outings. Saturday Sale joined Pedro Martinez and Nolan Ryan as the only pitchers in American League history to log at least 10 strikeouts in seven straight starts. (Rotoworld)
Graveman yielded four runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in Sunday’s loss to the Rangers. Graveman gave up two runs in the first inning, before settling in. Settling in, that is, until the seventh inning. In that frame, the Rangers would knock him from the game courtesy of an RBI infield single by Delino DeShields and an RBI double by Elvis Andrus. This was just the second time in seven starts that Graveman has allowed more than two runs. He will bring a 3.95 ERA and 1.24 WHIP into a home start against the Red Sox next time he toes the rubber.
