Today’s pitching matchup features Brad Peacock (2-0, 2.13 ERA) toeing the rubber for Houston to face Martin Perez (2-5, 4.19) of the Rangers. Peacock is making just his second start of the season. His last start saw him give up 4 runs against the Twins with 8 strikeouts. Perez has been shaky for the last few months, allowing multiple runs in eight straight starts. He has 46 strikeouts and 24 walks over 62.1 innings. His WHIP is 1.57.
Houston has won the first two games in this series and five of six meetings with the Rangers during the season. The Astros are on a 9-game winning streak, posting a 40-16 record overall this season with a 20-6 mark on the road. Texas is now 26-30 overall with a 17-12 record at home.
Saturday saw Houston hold Texas off for a 6-5 win. The Astros led 5-1 after three innings. They chased Andrew Cashner after six innings. He gave up five runs to take his fifth loss of the season. Lance McCullers Jr. wasn’t that great either. He lasted just 4.1 innings, allowing four runs with eight strikeouts. Carlos Beltran led the team with three hits and three RBI while Jose Altuve also had three hits and a home run. Elvis Andrus led Texas with three hits and three RBI.
Houston is too hot to pass up right now. The Astros have been amazing on the road all season and they still have a reliable arm on the mound in Peacock. Perez isn’t a lockdown pitcher for Texas, so I don’t see him being the man to cool off this Houston lineup. The Astros should continue their hitting and give Peacock enough breathing room to pick up a victory.
