The pitching matchup for tonight’s game has Marco Estrada (5-7, 4.85 ERA) on the mound to face Blake Snell (0-6, 4.69) of the Rays. Snell is coming off a 1-run, 6.1-inning effort against the Indians last week. However, he still was unable to get a win. Snell has 68 strikeouts this season with 43 walks and a 1.53 WHIP. Estrada has pitched seven innings in each of his last three starts, allowing a total of four runs in those games. He has 140 strikeouts with 56 walks and a 1.40 WHIP.
These two opened their series on Monday and the Blue Jays picked up a 2-1 win. The Jays have won six of their last eight meetings with the Rays. Toronto is now 57-61 overall and 32-28 at home. Tampa Bay is now 59-61 overall and 28-31 on the road.
Monday’s game saw all the runs scored by the second inning. Josh Donaldson had a two-run home run for the Jays in the first inning and Wilson Ramos had a solo home run in the second inning for the Rays. Nick Tepesch got the win by pitching 6 innings of 1-run ball for the Jays. Jake Odorizzi took the loss for the Rays by allowing the two runs over six innings.
Snell is coming off a good outing, but that was a rare showing for him. He hasn’t been able to get a win this season for a reason. Estrada is on an upswing and he can probably continue that against a Tampa Bay batting order that has been held to two runs or less in eight of their last 10 games. Toronto should be able to put up more than a few runs on Snell and pick up another win at home.
