Blue Jays vs. Red Sox Pick
The Toronto Blue Jays and the host Boston Red Sox wrap up a three-game series Wednesday night at 7:10PM EST.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Red Sox are listed as a -166 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Blue Jays are a +143 underdog, while the over-under is set at 10.
The Blue Jays will put Joe Biagini (5.01 ERA) on the mound, while the Red Sox counter with Doug Fister (4-7, 4.19). Biagini has a 1.36 WHIP with 87 strikeouts over 97 innings. He was fantastic in his last start as he gave up five hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk in seven shutout innings in a 1-0 loss at Baltimore. Biagini has a 4.53 road ERA in 20 appearances (six starts). Fister comes in with a 1.31 WHIP and 56 strikeouts over 66 2/3 innings. He allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk over seven innings in a 4-1 win at the Yankees his last outing. He had a 4.70 ERA in seven home appearances (six starts).
Toronto comes in with a 64-75 record and is 29-41 on the road, while Boston is 78-61 and 41-26 at home. The Red Sox have won seven of the last 10 meetings and the total has gone under six times.
Boston snapped a three-game losing skid Tuesday as it won a marathon six-hour game 3-2 in 19 innings as Hanley Ramirez provided the heroics with an RBI bloop single. Mookie Betts was 3-for-7 with a pair of doubles and two runs, including the game-winning run. Ramirez finished 2-for-8 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-8, while Dustin Pedroia was 2-for-5. Hector Velasquez picked up the win as the 12th Red Sox pitcher. Darwin Barney was 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Blue Jays. Kevin Pillar was 2-for-7 with a double and a run, while Kendrys Morales contributed a solo home run. Ezequiel Carrera was 2-for-4 off the bench. Chris Rowley took the loss in relief.
Both teams will undoubtedly come into this game a bit tired. Biagini was outstanding in his last road start and Fister is providing a solid addition to the Red Sox staff. If the two starters can go deep into the game, this one should go under. And there are still some fresh bullpen arms who didn’t throw a lot of pitches Tuesday if need be.
