The pitching matchup tonight has Tyson Ross (1-1, 9.35 ERA) on the mound for Texas to face Mike Clevinger (3-3, 3.86) of the Indians. Clevinger hasn’t been getting deep into games lately, lasting just 13 innings over his last three starts. He has 46 strikeouts with 22 walks this season and a 1.26 WHIP. Ross has started just two games, allowing nine earned runs in 8.2 innings. He has seven strikeouts with four walks and a 1.50 WHIP.
The Indians won the series opener on Monday, 15-9. Cleveland has now won all four meetings with the Rangers this season. The Rangers are 38-38 overall and 16-21 on the road while the Indians are 40-35 overall and 16-20 at home.
Cleveland fell behind 9-2 in Monday’s game, but rallied for 13 straight runs. The Texas bullpen allowed eight runs over 3.2 innings of work while Cole Hamels gave up seven runs in 4.1 innings in his first start since returning from injury. Carlos Carrasco also struggled, allowing eight runs in 3.1 innings, but his bullpen allowed just one run in 5.2 innings. The Indians got all their runs without any home runs. Lonnie Chisenhall, Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana each drove in three runs to lead the team to the win. Elvis Andrus drove in four for Texas while Adrian Beltre had three RBI. Joey Gallo also added his 20th home run of the season.
Cleveland should have plenty of momentum from Monday’s comeback win. Today, they have a great pitching matchup to take advantage of. Ross hasn’t looked good in his limited action and this Cleveland lineup should jump all over him. Clevinger hasn’t been outstanding either, but his numbers are better than Ross. Also, Clevinger has a stead bullpen to turn to.
