The pitching matchup tonight has James Shields (2-4, 5.90 ERA) on the mound for the White Sox to face Andrew Cashner (7-9, 3.32) of the Rangers. Shields has allowed at least three runs in his last 10 starts. He has 58 strikeouts with 32 walks and a 1.57 WHIP. Cashner has looked good in recent starts, allowing just four runs over his last 20 innings. Cashner has 59 strikeouts with 44 walks and a 1.32 WHIP.
These two opened the series on Thursday, as the Rangers picked up a 9-8 win at home. Texas is now 60-60 overall and 34-27 at home. Chicago is now 45-73 overall and 20-42 on the road.
Neither pitcher looked great as Reynaldo Lopez allowed five earned runs over 4.1 innings. Tyson Ross also went just 4.1 innings and he gave up five runs, three were earned. Nomar Mazara led the Rangers in the win with two hits and five RBI. Brett Nicholas added a pair of hits and three RBI. Chicago was led by Jose Abreu, who had two hits and three RBI. That included his 23rd home run of the season.
The White Sox managed some good hitting on Thursday, but that has been inconsistent for them as of late. Cashner has the stuff to keep Chicago in check. Shields has struggled basically all season. Texas has scored at least six runs in six of their last seven games and at least nine in their last three. The Rangers should be able to continue to rack up the runs on Shields tonight and lead Texas to a big win.
