The pitching matchup in this game has Michael Fulmer (6-6, 3.29 ERA) on the mound for the Tigers to face Jake Junis (2-1, 4.97) of the Royals. Junis has allowed multiple runs in all five of his starts this year. He has given up 16 earned runs over 29 innings on the season with 23 strikeouts and 13 walks. His WHIP is 1.62. Fulmer got back on track in his last start, allowing just one run on two hits over seven innings. He has 71 strikeouts with 24 walks this season and a 1.16 WHIP.
These two have split the first two games of the series, with Detroit getting a 5-3 win on Tuesday and the Royals getting an 8-2 victory on Wednesday. The Tigers have won three of five meetings on the season. Detroit is now 34-43 overall and 19-17 at home. Kansas City is 38-38 overall and 17-20 on the road.
The Royals dominated Wednesday’s game. They beat up Daniel Norris quickly, as he allowed five runs in 3.2 innings to take his sixth loss. Ian Kennedy had a promising start for KC, lasting seven innings while giving up just two runs on five hits. Mike Moustakas hit his 20th home run of the season for KC while Salvador Perez had his 16th home run and drove in three runs. Alex Gordon also drove in three. Both Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila homered for the Tigers.
Kansas City has been playing good baseball as of late, but I still want to go with the inconsistent Tigers today. The main reason is I think Fulmer will give them a great outing and allow them to get the win if their hitters can get to Junis. Detroit has a lot of inconsistent pieces, but Fulmer looked great in San Diego. As long as he gets a few runs of support, Detroit should win.
