Verlander was rocked for the first time this season, allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits over just four innings of work on Saturday against the Indians. He started the year off with two quality starts, but this one got away from him. He enters play tonight with a 5.71 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP after 17 1/3 innings of work. He’s allowed 11 earned runs on the year.

Santiago threw seven scoreless innings against the White Sox on Sunday, but got the no-decision in the Twins’ loss. He left the game with a 1-0 lead but the bullpen blew a the late lead when the game eventually went into extra innings. He owns a 1.47 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP over his 18 1/3 innings of work thus far. Santiago looks great thus far.

Bet Tonight’s Tigers vs. Twins Game

OUR PICK: Santiago is due for a dud and since Verlander got his out of the way in his last start, the Tigers are an attractive play tonight in Minnesota. The Tigers have won seven of Verlander’s last nine road starts against the Twins and are 20-7 in their last 27 games overall versus the Twins. The Tigers have also won 13 of Verlander’s last 18 outings overall versus the Twins, who are just 18-38 in their last 56 home games versus Detroit.
