DETROIT NOTES: Justin Verlander gave up four runs in three innings last Wednesday in a loss to a Phillies split-squad. He said afterwards he wasn’t happy with his performance after missing his spot with a couple of sliders. He gave up a three-run home run to Daniel Nava, which did most of the damage. He finished his spring with a 3.16 ERA.
CHICAGO NOTES: Quintana took over the team’s ace role after Chris Sale was traded to the Red Sox over the winter. The left-hander owns a 3.35 EA over his last four seasons and has made at least 32 starts in each of those years. He might be dealt at some point this season as the White Sox continue to rebuild, but for now he’ll serve as the team’s No. 1.
