Yanks’ acquire Chapman, WS odds climb
Unsurprisingly, the Yankees’ odds to win the 2016 World Series climbed after they acquired one of the best closers in baseball on Monday afternoon.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Yankees’ odds to win the World Series have gone from 18/1 up to 14/1 after the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman. New York opened with 16/1 odds to win the Fall Classic next season but the team’s odds went up to 18/1 before falling back down following its biggest move of the offseason.
In the trade, the Yankees acquired Chapman from the Reds in exchange for right-handed pitchers Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis, third baseman Eric Jagielo and second baseman Tony Renda. The deal was first reported Monday by YES Network’s Jack Curry and became official later that afternoon.
Chapman will join a bullpen that already includes Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances. The Yankees now have a pen that rivals the World Series champion Royals, who used defense, speed and an outstanding relief staff to reach back-to-back Fall Classics the past two seasons.
