Rodon has up-and-down Spring
Carlos Rodón gave up six runs — five earned — in four innings Saturday in a no-decision versus the Phillies. Rodón wasn’t nearly as sharp today as last time out, when he pitched 5 2/3 hitless innings against the Phillies. He gave up seven hits today, and he induced just four missed swings in the 82-pich outing. His average fastball was 94.1 mph, down from 95.3 mph last year. Rodón ends the spring with a 4.66 ERA and a 16/5 K/BB in 19 1/3 innings. It’s far from a disaster, but he hasn’t given anyone much reason to move him up draft boards.
Javier has mixed results in Spring Training
Cristian Javier pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed one run Saturday versus the Mets. Javier walked three and struck out three. He ends the spring with a solid 3.72 ERA but a weaker 17/10 K/BB with three homers allowed in 19 1/3 innings. We’re not betting on a big rebound from his disappointing 2023.
