New York Yankees DFS Notes
Gerrit Cole struck out eight and gave up three runs over five innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday. Cole was motoring along over the first four innings, but was undone by the fifth. The right-hander gave up a sac fly to Xander Bogaerts that tied the game at 1-1, but the big blow was a two-run shot by Rafael Devers to give Boston the 3-1 lead and Cole his fifth loss of the season against 10 wins. Not an abhorrent start by any means, but disappointing from one of the best pitchers in baseball who had been firing on all cylinders as of late. Expect Cole to bounce back next week against the Rays in Tampa.
Tampa Bay Rays DFS Notes
Luis Patiño was charged with four runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Indians. Patiño lit up the radar gun, touching 98 mph with his four-seam fastball, and also generated 13 swinging strikes in this one. Unfortunately, he also had issues with the long ball as well. The flame-throwing 21-year-old righty gave up five hits, including a three-run homer to Franmil Reyes in the third inning. He’s compiled a lackluster 5.26 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 28/8 K/BB ratio across 25 2/3 innings (seven appearances, five starts) at the major-league level. It’s unclear when his next start will take place, but Rays appear poised to give him an extended opportunity over the final two months, which makes him worthy of a speculative roster spot for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues.
