RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (AP) -Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jered Weaver, recovering from biceps tendinitis, pitched four solid innings for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga in a rehab start Friday.
Weaver threw 77 pitches, 47 for strikes, and allowed two hits, including a home run. He walked one and struck out five, leaving the game with the Quakes tied at 1 with Lake Elsinore. He won his first nine decisions last season as a rookie and finished 11-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 19 starts.
“I felt great out there,” Weaver said. “My pitches were there and I feel like I’m ready to get back out there.”
Weaver, who topped out at 93 mph on the radar gun, was the second Angels pitcher to start for Rancho Cucamonga in two nights after Bartolo Colon threw four scoreless innings. Colon also is on the 15-day disabled list because of a torn rotator cuff that sidelined him for the final two months of last season.
Weaver has one more scheduled rehab start Wednesday night before his slated return to the Angels’ rotation on April 16 at Boston.
