MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Tampa Bay’s Carl Crawford led off the sixth inning with an inside-the-park homer off Minnesota’s Johan Santana on Friday night.
With that, the Devil Rays tied their team record with a homer in 10 straight games, last done from Sept. 18-28, 2000.
Twins left fielder Josh Rabe played Crawford’s slicing line drive awkwardly, failing to run fast enough to make a backhanded catch. The ball bounced in front of him, rolled to the wall and stopped, allowing Crawford – one of the quickest players in the majors – to run around the bases and score standing up.
It was the second inside-the-park home run of Crawford’s career, the last coming on April 6, 2005, against the Toronto Blue Jays.
