CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Cubs recalled right-hander Angel Guzman from Triple-A Iowa before Sunday’s start against the Washington Nationals.
Guzman replaces infielder Ronny Cedeno, who was optioned to Iowa following Saturday’s 5-3 win. Cedeno, the Cubs’ opening day shortstop in 2006, was hitting .097 in 31 at-bats.
Guzman was 0-6 lifetime with a 6.82 ERA in 19 major league appearances – 10 starts – entering Sunday’s game.
He started the season in the Cubs’ bullpen and was 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA in four appearances, allowing two earned runs in 7 1-3 innings before being optioned on April 17. He struggled in three starts at Iowa, going 0-2 with a 12.19 ERA.
