BOSTON (AP) -New York Yankees center fielder Johnny Damon was out of the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox with a sore lower back and hamstring.
Manager Joe Torre said before the game that Damon would probably not be available. Torre also said that catcher Jorge Posada, who left Friday’s game with an injured left thumb, would be available in an emergency.
“He said he couldn’t feel the ball,” Torre said.
Melky Cabrera played center and batted first in place of Damon. Wil Nieves replaced Posada behind the plate.
