BOSTON (AP) -The Detroit Tigers called up left-hander Tim Byrdak from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Byrdak was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in 22 innings over 15 appearances for Toledo. The Tigers signed him in November as a minor league free agent after he spent the last two seasons in the Baltimore organization.
Byrdak takes the spot of right-hander Virgil Vasquez, who was optioned to Toledo on Sunday after struggling in his major league debut. He started and took the loss when Minnesota beat the Tigers 16-4. He allowed six runs in 2 2-3 innings.
The Tigers made room on the 40-man roster for Byrdak by transferring left-hander Kenny Rogers from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
