LOS ANGELES (AP) The Dodgers open the season with 10 players on the disabled list, likely a record, after catcher Yasmani Grandal and infielder Howie Kendrick got hurt.
Grandal (right forearm soreness) and Kendrick (strained left calf) were placed on the 15-day DL Sunday retroactive to March 25.
Major League Baseball said the total was the most since 2002, the earliest records were readily available. The previous high since then had been the 2012 Boston Red Sox with nine.
Also on the 15-day DL are right-hander Mike Bolsinger (left oblique strain), outfielder Andre Ethier (broken right leg), infielder-outfielder Alex Guerrero (left knee bruise), right-hander Josh Ravin (left radius fracture), and left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (left shoulder surgery).
Left-hander Brett Anderson (herniated disk surgery) is on the 60-day DL, along with right-handers Brandon McCarthy (Tommy John surgery) and Frankie Montas (rib resection surgery).
Also Sunday, the Dodgers selected the contract of infielder Charlie Culberson from Triple-A, recalled right-hander Ross Stripling and optioned left-hander Luis Avilan. They reassigned infielder Rob Segedin to the minors.
