NEW YORK (AP) -The brother of Yankees manager Joe Torre returned to intensive care Thursday because of an infection he developed following kidney transplant surgery.
Frank Torre, who is 75, had the kidney operation May 1, then was in intensive care earlier this week at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia with pneumonia.
“He was in a private room, and I went over there this morning, and after I left they put him back in ICU,” Joe Torre said. “Health-wise, he’s had a lot of issues over the years. You get one thing taken of, all of a sudden that affects something else.”
Frank Torre had a heart transplant during the 1996 World Series, watching from his hospital bed as Joe managed the Yankees to the title. Frank Torre spent seven seasons with the Milwaukee Braves and Philadelphia Phillies from 1956-63.
