CLEVELAND (AP) -The Cleveland Indians extended the contracts of assistant general managers Chris Antonetti and John Mirabelli on Tuesday.
Antonetti also was promoted to vice president of baseball operations.
“Consistency and stability are an important part of any successful organization,” general manager Mark Shapiro said in a statement released by the ballclub. “These extensions not only signify that stability, but it also maintains the invaluable, strong and passionate leadership Chris and John have provided the Indians organization.”
Antonetti is in his sixth season as assistant GM and ninth overall with the Indians. His new contract runs through 2011.
Mirabelli is also in his sixth year as the Indians’ assistant general manager of scouting operations and eighth season overall in charge of the clubs scouting department. His contract runs through 2010.
Mirabelli joined the Indians after nine years in the Detroit Tigers’ scouting department. Antonetti began his career in professional baseball by working two years in the Montreal Expos’ player development system.
