ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter left Tuesday night’s game against Tampa Bay with a bruised left thigh after being hit with a first-inning pitch by the Devil Rays’ Scott Kazmir.
“It’s no big deal. It will be all right tomorrow,” said Jeter, who expects to be back in the lineup when the Yankees begin a two-game series at home against Toronto.
Jeter was plunked on the side of his leg, just above the knee. After being checked by a trainer and talking to manager Joe Torre, the Yankees captain walked to first base and remained in the game until New York took the field for the bottom of the first.
He was replaced at shortstop by Miguel Cairo.
“It’s not bad,” Jeter said. “It never feels good when you get hit, but it shouldn’t be a big deal.”
