MIAMI (AP) -Center fielder Cody Ross left in the fourth inning of the Florida Marlins’ game against San Diego on Saturday night because of a left hamstring injury.
The severity of the injury was not immediately known. A team spokesman said Ross was being evaluated.
Ross homered in the second inning, then walked and stole second – his first steal of the year and the second of his career – in the fourth. He suffered the injury one pitch later, when catcher Miguel Olivo doubled to left.
Ross began hobbling as he rounded third and limped the rest of the way to home plate, grabbing his hamstring and then falling to one knee shortly after scoring the run.
He was replaced by Alfredo Amezaga.
