NEW YORK (AP) -The Mets activated pitcher Oliver Perez from the 15-day disabled list prior to Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
The left-handed Perez, who had been on the DL since July 3 because of stiffness in his back, was the starting pitcher in the finale of New York’s four-game series with Cincinnati.
Perez made one rehabilitation start for the Gulf Coast League Mets and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. He is 7-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 15 starts for the Mets.
The Mets designated lefty Dave Williams for assignment to make room for Perez.
Williams was activated from the DL and made one start on July 8 against the Houston Astros. He took the loss, allowing eight runs and 10 hits in 3 1-3 innings for a 21.60 ERA.
