NEW YORK (AP) -Mets outfielder Lastings Milledge was sent down to Triple-A New Orleans to make room for Mike Pelfrey, New York’s scheduled starter Friday night against the Washington Nationals.
Milledge pinch hit in the sixth inning of Thursday night’s 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies and popped out. It was only his third at-bat of the season, and the Mets want him to play every day in New Orleans.
Pelfrey won the Mets’ fifth starter job in spring training and spent the first part of the season in Triple-A because the club didn’t need a fifth starter. The right-hander went 2-1 with a 5.48 ERA in four starts with the Mets last season.
