CLEVELAND (AP) -The Baltimore Orioles activated Jaret Wright from the 15-day disabled list Sunday and sent the right-hander to the mound to start against the Cleveland Indians.
Right-hander Jim Johnson was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk to make room on the Orioles’ roster.
The 31-year-old Wright had been sidelined since April 11 with a sore right shoulder. In two starts, he went 0-2 with a 6.14 ERA. He allowed three hits over five scoreless innings against Detroit on April 10, then yielded an infield single and walk to open the sixth before leaving with the sore shoulder.
The start against Cleveland was his first against the Indians, who drafted Wright in the first round in 1994. He went 33-32 for Cleveland from 1997 through 2002, going on the disabled list three separate times with shoulder ailments.
He then pitched for San Diego, Atlanta and the New York Yankees and was traded to Baltimore in November for right-hander Chris Britton.
Johnson allowed two runs over two innings in his only relief appearance for Baltimore on Wednesday after being called up Tuesday when right-hander Scott Williamson went on the Orioles’ disabled list.
