DENVER (AP) -The Colorado Rockies placed pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a thumb injury and purchased the contract of pitcher Zach McClellan from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Kim left Sunday’s start against Arizona in the fourth inning with a bruised thumb on on his pitching hand. He hurt the thumb while batting earlier in the game. Kim is 1-2 with a 10.50 ERA this season.
The 28-year-old McClellan has never appeared in a major league game. He’s thrown four shutout innings with Colorado Springs this season.
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said he plans use McClellan in late-inning situations.
“Zach’s pitched well,” Hurdle said. “This is an opportunity we wanted to give to him. We’re confident he’ll run with it.”
