MINNEAPOLIS (AP) David Murphy and the Minnesota Twins have agreed to a minor league contract, and the 34-year-old outfielder will report to Triple-A Rochester.
The Twins announced the move Thursday. Murphy was at spring training with Boston on a minor league contract, then was released before opening day.
Murphy hit .283 with 18 doubles, 10 home runs and 50 RBIs in 361 at-bats with Cleveland and the Los Angeles Angels. He has spent all 10 of his major league seasons in the AL, mostly with Texas. Murphy was a regular in the Rangers lineup for six years before signing with the Indians for 2014.
He batted a career-best .304 with a .380 on-base percentage and 15 home runs in 2012 for the Rangers.
