PITTSBURGH (AP) -Josh Willingham and Miguel Cabrera had RBI doubles in an eighth-inning rally, and Florida won for the second night in a row after losing four straight, beating Pittsburgh 4-3 on Wednesday night.
The Marlins trailed 3-2 entering the eighth, but Hanley Ramirez singled off reliever Matt Capps (2-1) with one out. Cabrera and Willingham followed with doubles to make it 4-3.
The Pirates lost their 12th in 18 games despite Adam LaRoche’s first homer at home this season during a three-hit night, all of which figured in their scoring.
Taylor Tankersley (3-1) retired the only two batters he faced in the seventh for the victory after Marlins starter Scott Olsen gave up five hits and three runs in 6 1-3 innings.
Pirates starter Zach Duke, looking for his first win in seven starts, left with the one-run lead after seven, but Capps couldn’t hold it.
Nationals 6, Braves 4
WASHINGTON (AP) – Ryan Church hit a go-ahead, three-run double in the fifth, and Washington’s bullpen threw five shutout innings for the Nationals’ fifth victory in six games.
Church’s liner to right-center off Kyle Davies (1-2) capped a four-run inning in which the Nationals batted around and all of the runs were unearned, thanks to second baseman Kelly Johnson’s fielding error.
Levale Speigner lasted four innings in his first major league start, allowing four runs and eight hits.
Billy Traber (1-0), called up earlier in the day, earned the win by pitching his first inning of 2007 for the Nationals. Ray King, Winston Abreu, Saul Rivera, Chad Cordero and Jon Rauch finished up, with Rauch earning his second save.
Chipper Jones, who missed the previous four games with bruised hands and thumbs, doubled and scored on Andruw Jones’ two-run single in the first.
