MIAMI (AP) -Dontrelle Willis prepared to take the mound Monday night as his wife prepared to deliver the couple’s first child.
Before the game, Willis said doctors were expected to soon induce labor. He said he had received 50 phone calls and 32 text messages Monday from people inquiring about the delivery.
The Florida Marlins’ left-hander took the mound as scheduled against the Atlanta Braves.
Willis and his wife, Natalee, were expecting a girl.
“I told him, `Now you’re going to pay for everything you’ve done,”’ Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
