Yankees’ Karstens goes 5 innings in Trenton rehab stint

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – New York Yankees right-hander Jeff Karstens pitched five innings Tuesday night in a rehab start for Double-A Trenton, allowing four hits and one earned run.
Karstens was making his third rehab start as he recovers from a broken bone in his left leg suffered April 28.
Another Yankees pitcher, Phil Hughes, is scheduled to make a rehab start for the Trenton Thunder on Wednesday. Hughes, who has been on the disabled list with hamstring and ankle injuries, is scheduled to throw 60 pitches in an afternoon game against Binghamton.
Hughes threw three scoreless innings for Trenton on Friday night, striking out six.
Hughes was 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in two starts with the Yankees this season. Karstens was 2-2 with a 4.79 ERA in 10 games for New York.
