The start of the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup racing season is just over two weeks away and NASCAR fans couldn’t be more ready. The 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season will kick off with the 50th running of the Daytona 500, the Great American Race. Daytona 500 Information:
This years Daytona 500 will be the 50th anniversary of the Great American Race. The 2008 Daytona 500 will also have a record purse and will see the top 5 finishers all taking home more than $1 million dollars. The winner of the inaugural Daytona 500 in 1959 – Lee Petty took home a mere $19,000.
This race also broke ticket sales records with all of Daytona International Speedway’s 200,000 seats being sold before the end of January.
The United States Air Force will be providing a flyover of Daytona International Speedway on race day by the “Thunderbirds” Fighter Demonstration Squadron.
