Ford 400 Results
Denny Hamlin won the 2009 Ford 400, but it was Jimmie Johnson that stole the show on Sunday.
Even though he only needed a 25th-place finish in the Ford 400 to take home his fourth consecutive championship, Johnson raced hard at Homestead-Miami Speedway to finish fifth. He held off teammate Mark Martin in the race for the Sprint Cup title.
Johnson finished the 2009 season with seven wins in 36 starts. He finished in the top 10 24 times and in the top-5 16 times, while Martin finished in the top-10 21 times and in the top-5 14 times.
Hamlin beat out Jeff Burton to capture the checker flag on Sunday. Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com made Hamlin a 20/1 long shot to win the Ford 400 entering Sunday’s race, which means a $100 wager placed on Hamlin paid out $2,000.
The top 10 for Sunday’s race finished as followed: Hamlin, Burton, Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Martin Treux Jr., A.J. Allmendinger. Johnson was a 7/2 favorite entering the race, while Martin was 9/2 and Tony Stewart was 7/1.
